7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Don’t Screw it up!!

This is the countdown. What I mean is that in 7 weeks—Lord willin’ and no complications—Lindsey and I will be parents of a child outside the womb. So far I’ve been a pretty good dad, but Ben (the unborn lil’ one) wouldn’t know either way at this point. The weight of being a father is setting in and doing what it should do, namely, driving me to my knees in prayer.

I want to be a GREAT father. I want my son and future children to think they have the ‘most awesomest dad in the whole big world.’ That line was written in young child English. So I’ve been thinking about what it would mean to be GREAT as a father. Here’s a list of things I’ve come up with.

Be consistent in all expressions of love and discipline.

That’s pretty much my list at this point. I feel like if my son knows he’ll be loved, encouraged, cheered for, built up, and yet disciplined when he goes outside set boundaries, he’ll not only love in return, he’ll respect me. I hope he’ll think I’m a GREAT dad–even though he won’t think that when his rear is getting whipped. I’m really only projecting the way I feel about God onto my son. But I know that without fail I am loved by God, forgiven, cheered for, as well as disciplined…but I also know that the Lord disciplines those whom He loves.
